ED Ranks #2 in Best Practices

Outpatient Surgery, Inpatient Services Score High

June 29, 2004 - Reston, Virginia - Reston Hospital Center's Emergency Department has scored in 16 different Best Practices Areas for the first quarter of 2004. That puts the ED at the Number 2 spot on HCA's Eastern Group, consisting of 90 hospitals.

The recognition comes on the heels of Reston Hospital Center's "Kinder, Smarter, Faster" ad campaign that highlights three strengths reflected among the 16 Best Practice Areas.

"I am so proud of our staff and physicians," says President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Adams. "They have worked very hard in the past year with the transition to the new ED. This recognition is well-deserved."

In addition, Outpatient Surgery has won Best Practices in five areas, ranking it #6 in HCA's Eastern Group. This is the third time in a year that this area has earned high praise from its patients.

"I think the repeat recognition demonstrates that Reston Hospital Center provides some of the finest outpatient surgery service available," notes Chief Nursing Officer Cindy Glover, RN.

Reston Hospital Center also ranked near the top third of the Eastern Group, scoring high in three Inpatient Best Practice Areas, including Overall Laboratory Services, Education and Informational Material Provided, and Problem Resolution.

"The Lab consistently scores high in patient satisfaction," adds Jane Raymond, Chief Operating Officer. "So many individuals contribute to problem resolution and education. This genuinely is a hospital-wide recognition of which we all can be proud."

Best Practices awards are based on the Gallup Patient Satisfaction Surgery results, which place these areas in the Top Ten percent of our company overall. HCA is composed of locally managed facilities that include approximately 191 hospitals and 82 outpatient surgery centers in 23 states, England and Switzerland.
