Education and Classes

Just as the physicians, nurses and physical therapists have completed years of education and training in orthopedic surgery, nursing and rehabilitation, the Total Joint Center team hopes that you will take time to educate yourself about your upcoming joint replacement. Preparing for your upcoming joint replacement doesn't just ease the fears associated with an upcoming surgery, pre-surgery education has proven to create better patient outcomes.

In addition to the educational material that your physician provides to you, Reston Hospital Center asks that all total joint patients attend Joint Replacement Orientation class, and take the time to their Total Joint Manual.

At the Reston Hospital Center Joint Replacement Orientation our goal is to maximize planning for before and after joint replacement surgery, through a fun and focused hour and a half of education. Members of the Total Joint Team in nursing, physical therapy, and discharge planning will provide education regarding how to prepare for surgery, what to expect at the hospital, what to do after surgery, and what to expect of a total joint replacement. The team will also do their best to answer any questions that our patients and their family members or joint coaches may have.

Three Joint Replacement Orientations are held each month. They take place:

  • The first Thursday of every month from 9:00AM to 10:30AM
  • The second Tuesday of every month from 9:30AM to 11:00AM
  • The third Tuesday of every month from 4:30PM to 6:00PM

Orientation is free, but space is limited--please call 1-877-689-DOCS to register.
