Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses magnetic fields, not radiation, to make pictures of the internal organs and structures inside the body. MRIs help doctors diagnose conditions and internal injuries and check to see if medicines or treatments are working properly.

MRI technology at Reston Hospital Center is the most advanced in the region. We are the only center in Northern Virginia to offer 3.0 Tesla MRI, an innovative imaging system that enables high-speed, high-definition imaging of the body. It allows doctors to spot tumors and is particularly useful for neurologic studies. We also offer open-MRI technology–combining comfort and speed with high-field performance and a spacious opening for those patients who may feel claustrophobic when undergoing traditional MRI.

How You Benefit

An MRI lets your doctor take a closer look at parts of the body than is possible with other imaging methods, such as X-ray. MRI is extremely useful in diagnosing and treating a broad range of conditions, such as tumors, stroke, heart disease and much more. This allows your healthcare team to provide you with earlier diagnosis and treatment leading to more positive outcomes.
