Having your Baby

For your comfort, Reston’s private labor and birthing rooms offer a warm environment with supportive, skilled care providers—and technology readily available to support your birthing experience. Our birthing suits feel just like home, with private baths, classic upholstery, and a sleep sofa for an overnight guest.

For those delivering by either scheduled or emergency cesarean sections, RHC is equipped with designated labor and delivery operating rooms. In almost all instances, your spouse or significant other should be able to accompany you through the procedure.

When it’s time for you to welcome your newest family member to the world, just go straight to the labor and delivery floor of the hospital. This is the second floor of the hospital’s West Wing. After 8:30 P.M. please go to the Emergency Room instead of Labor and Delivery. From the ER, someone will escort you to our birthing center.

After your recovery, you and your new baby will be transferred to a maternity room. Getting to know your baby is an exciting and very important process, so we practice “rooming-in”. Participating in your baby’s care helps you become familiar with his or her unique needs. During this time, your patient care team will support you and your baby as you get to know each other and as you recover.

Our new mothers will be seen by certified lactation consultants, who will help get you started comfortably and confidently. Our maternity rooms welcome your significant other to stay overnight and assist you with caring for your new baby.

All newborns are monitored by HUGS, a newborn security system, which protects against the unauthorized removal of an infant from the hospital. Security procedures are reviewed with parents upon admission.
