Reston Hospital Center History

Reston Hospital Center is a 187-bed, full-service, medical/surgical hospital serving the needs of residents in western Fairfax and eastern Loudoun counties.
Reston Hospital Center began as a 127-bed facility that opened in November 10, 1986. In 2001, the hospital began a major expansion project that included the West Wing, a new five-story addition that features 60 additional licensed beds for The Family Center; the Critical Care, Progressive Care, Medical/Oncology and Surgical units; a new Endoscopy suite; expanded Emergency and Radiology departments; expanded ancillary areas such as Medical Records and Dietary; the Parkway Medical Tower that houses an ambulatory surgery center and medical offices; and a 1,050-space parking garage. The hospital continues to add new services and technology to accommodate the growing population of Northern Virginia.

Reston Hospital Center, conveniently located within Reston's vibrant Town Center, offers a full range of medical services including 24-hour emergency care. The hospital specializes in maternal/child health, surgical services on both an inpatient and extensive outpatient basis, urological services including lithotripsy, cancer care with state-of-the-art radiation therapy, rehabilitation therapy programs and a wide array of diagnostic imaging capabilities. Reston Hospital Center is a private, tax-paying hospital that is an affiliate of HCA – a healthcare system of more than 175 hospitals throughout the United States and Europe.

The Reston Hospital Center Medical Staff consists of more than 690 primary care and specialty physicians with hospital privileges. The hospital employs more than 1,200 part and full time staff members. In addition, more than 180 men, women and teenagers volunteer their time at the hospital on a weekly basis.

Reston Hospital Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the Virginia Department of Health. The hospital also is certified by the American College of Radiology. We are members of the American Hospital Association, the Virginia Hospital Association, and the College of American Pathologists.
